Acid Reflux Incisionless Procedure

One in 10 Americans experience heartburn symptoms at least once a week.  Many people watch what they eat and drink, or they take over-the-counter or prescription medication for relief of heartburn.

EsophyX, an incisionless procedure, is available at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center to treat the cause of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), not just the symptoms.

The procedure is performed through the mouth.  It has the ability to reduce small hiatal hernias and reconstruct the valve between the stomach and esophagus restoring the natural, physiological anatomy to prevent gastroesophageal reflux.  Because the procedure is incisionless, there is reduced pain, reduced recovery and no visible scar.

Studies have shown that long term use of medication can lead to inadequate absorption of minerals such as calcium and can result in bone fractures.  Based on clinical research, the new procedure can reduce patients’ dependency on medications with 70% of patients remaining symptom-free after two years.
